Cedar Lake Speedway Information
The 2000 Racing Season will mark the 42nd year of operation for Cedar Lake Speedway. Our 3/8 mile clay-oval has developed into one of the nations premier short track facilities. The founder, Elmer Cook, ran a construction company and, in the spring of 1957 Elmer and his oldest son Bob came up with the idea to build a racetrack. The first event was held the last Sunday in June of that year, and a field of 12 cars and 85 spectators were on hand for the opening show on a flat clay oval.
That was the humble beginning of what would become a very successful family run racing facility. Over the years the Cook family continued to expand and improve the raceway and the grounds. Today the state of the art 3/8 mile clay oval is not only one of the most successful weekly racing program on Saturday evenings, but the track also hosts many nationally sanctioned events including the HAV-A-TAMPA U.S.A. Nationals one of the nations most prestigious dirt Late Model events. In addition the track hosts the premier open-wheeled dirt series the World of Outlaws Sprint cars and each season concludes with the WISSOTA 100 which is the showcase event for the sanctioning body and the show typically draws over 400 entries.
The weekly racing program features and all WISSOTA program with Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks and Street Stocks taking to the track. The show features some of the finest dirt track drivers in the upper Midwest, and fans witness fields of over 150 entries compete during our weekly racing programs.
